1
day Handicraft Villages
Hanoi, Ha Tay, Hanoi.
Located in the heart of Ha Tay
province, about half an hour by car southwest
of Hanoi, the villages of Duyen Thai,
Cu Da and Chuong, which possess their own traditional
handicrafts, are our base for just a one-day
trip out of Hanoi.
These villages lie along
the bank of the Red River. The main river winds
its way through the marshy delta to the Gulf
of Tonkin. It boasts an impressive landscape
with endless rice fields, ancient pagodas and
a labyrinth of markets.
We depart from Hanoi for a
short drive to Ha Tay province in the neighbourhood
of Hanoi (15 km away). Upon our arrival at Duyen
Thai village, home to traditional
lacquer ware.
Time
here can be spent wandering around traditional
villages and meeting the friendly local people.
Cycling is one of the best
ways to really see the next villages of Cu Da
and Tuc. We navigate along the river front, through enomous rice fields and beyond.
En route, we
disembark to experience traditional methods
of processing noodle vermicelli and soya sauce
in local homes.
Those who appreciate the sheer delight of local cuisine can settle in with a local family making Spring Rolls and other dishes.
We never leave the area
without visiting the village of Chuong, known for making traiditonal conical hat. After that, we make our way back to Hanoi,
arriving there at around 5pm. (Lunch is included).
