River Delta
Hanoi, Tam Diep, Tam Coc, Trang An, Hanoi.
Learn the secrets of hand-made
rice noodles and spring rolls in the cosy atmosphere
of a Vietnamese family, this blended with the
experience of cycling and boating is a great
way to fully appreciate the local people and
the picturesque Red River Delta.
Day 1 Hanoi /
Tam Diep / Tam Coc
We depart from Hanoi to Ninh Binh province. Ninh Binh is located in the
marshy Red River delta, featuring a network
of waterways coupled with spectacular limestone
formations rising up from rice paddy fields.
On arrival at a village in the Tam Diep district,
we settle in with a family.
Those who
appreciate the sheer delight of local cuisine
can head out to a market, which is laden
with fresh meat, fish, vegetables and fruit.
Together we learn how to make authentic
Vietnamese food, such as succulent Spring Rolls,
zesty dipping sauce and sticky rice. We then
enjoy the family’s gracious hospitality
as they share lunch with us.
There is plenty
of time for us to experience the way of life
in the delta. We also observe the various steps
required to make rice noodles, which are time-consuming
and labour-intensive. The day would not be complete
without a short bicycle ride, offering extensive
views of the neighbourhood.
We end our day in Tam Diep, an area which features small villages. Here we spend the night in a local family to experience their way of life.
(Lunch and dinner are included).
Day 2 Tam Diep / Trang An / Hanoi
On this day we take an unusual foray into the
rural life and spirit of the delta. We combine
a wonderful boat ride along a scenic canal with
walking around open rice fields and looking
around at the amazing folds of the impressive rock formations.
We spend time learning about agriculture. Those who are energetic can take a bicycle ride
through
an unique area known for its breathtaking beauty, while others can stroll peacefully around beautiful villages. This is followed by our journey back to Hanoi, arriving there at about 5pm. (Breakfast and
lunch are included).
